The visuals were original, the stories poignant, and the message inspirational. A must see for anyone who loves a young person or, on the other side, wonders what in the world is going on with these young people today. This movies documents the three-year process of making a rap record and shows how success in art in both tied to and inspires personal growth in all areas of one's life from education to family issues. Best of all, I left the theater energized and ready to go back for another day in the trenches working with middle- and high-school youth. This film was also an example of how honesty, integrity, and perseverence can allow you to make critical connections with youth that have been discounted. This movie gave me strategies I would like to implement in my own work with youth. And the record they made sounds pretty cool, too! Go check it out -- and if you can, take a teenager with you!

The main dude reminds me of what I want to do when i get my MSW. Its important to give back as well as directing the youth into more positve aspects of life. I loved it. its bigger then hip hop.. its the furtue generation that need light.

A great movie and a powerful and inspiring example of community leadership, leadership development and the difference we can make in other lives and in our own.

The Hip Hop Project is powerful art. It is about living an authentic life ? regardless of the hand that one has been dealt. It is about animating artistic excellence. In the HHProject, people became radiant & strong in their relationship to others. This is rare & beautiful. The rappers DID use words that are not permitted in schools. However, as they became more articulate, word choices shifted. Also, the infrequent and contextually-neutral use of slang-of-genuine-frustration was completely offset by watching disenfranchised people learn to use to use words as a tool of transformation. The impact of these uncensored voices can help radical generational & intergenerational healing across the country. It should be seen & processed. In comparison, CRASH (I liked) said, ?Here are some problems?. The HHProject (with some different problems) says, ?Here are some processes to solutions?. It may not work as a music+booty film- although, listen with your heart. The Hip Hop Project sings.
